120 Battements Par Minute
English title: 120 BPM
Winner of the GRAND PRIX at the 2017
Cannes Film Festival
Recipient of six César Awards including BEST FILM.
Directed by Robin Campillo, this award-winning drama follows the Paris division of the activist group ACT UP at the height of the AIDS crisis in the early 1990s.
Drawing on his own experiences of the activist group, Campillo shifts between the political narrative of ACT UP and the personal stories of its members. With AIDS having already claimed countless lives over the past decade, the Parisian activists demand action from the government and pharmaceutical companies to combat the disease. As the group debate the violence of their protests, a romance blooms between newcomer Nathan, and HIV+ Sean, a radical member of ACT UP who gives everything he has left to the struggle against the epidemic.
Showing with English Subtitles as part of the REVOLUTIONS MA Festival.
